Sunday Morning Service - October 13, 2024 - “Heart Issues”
One of the major themes of 1 & 2 Samuel (and Scripture in general) is God's concern with a person's heart (cf. 1 Sam. 16:7b). God is not impressed with outward appearance, status, or reputation; He is interested first and foremost in the state of our heart.
Since God is most concerned with our heart, it is incumbent on each of us to be sure that our heart is pleasing and acceptable in His sight. Of course, this presents a problem: we are all born into this world with hearts that are dead in sin and unable to respond to God in any appropriate way.
For this reason, the only hope that we have is in the gospel of Jesus Christ, because it is only through the gospel that God sovereignly draws us to faith in Christ, in whom we are forgiven of our sin and made righteous and acceptable before God.
