I usually use many different commentaries in preparing to preach a text.
Of particular weight in this message is Doug Moo’s comments on this text. This is the final message in “the Normal Christian Life” and it actually links to the last message I delivered last year in the series on “Christian Ethics.” I think Paul sums up his teaching on what is normative for believers in this text - which naturally gathers from many other New Testament ideas.
This text is about identity. Who we were and who we are. What we were and what has changed us.
