Sunday Morning Service - January 28, 2024 - “Jesus Heals a Demon Possessed Man ”
Jesus’ miracles were not merely random acts of kindness performed for others. It is true that they expressed His compassion and love for others, and His miracles clearly demonstrated His power and authority. But even more than caring for the physical needs of those He encountered, His miracles expressed deeper spiritual reality. Spurgeon said, “All of our Lord’s miracles were intended to be parables; they were intended to instruct as well as to impress; they are sermons to the eye, just as His spoken discourses were sermons to the ear.”
From Jesus giving sight to the blind, to His exorcizing demons, to His raising the dead, Jesus’ miracles visually expressed spiritual reality. This can be seen in the passage before us this morning, especially when we consider the characters involved in the account.
