Sunday Morning Service - November 10, 2024 - “The Universe of Spiritual Gifts”
The word “universe” is from Latin and French origins, and it literally means “the one” (uni) “turns to the many” (versus), i.e. the one from the many. Paul says that this is the nature of spiritual gifts - the many are variously gifted to form the one i.e. the Body of Christ. This has, of course, been a controversial subject in Church history - with some having an overheated interest in the gifts of the Spirit, while others are cool to the subject. Our purpose for the next three chapters is to gain a true understanding of what Paul is teaching the church.
Paul begins the subject with a theological foundation in verses 1-11. The ideas we see here will frame the rest of his teaching on spiritual gifts.
